#1. Deepfake Generation

Generative AI has improved the creation of deepfakes, which are very real fake videos, images, or audio recordings (most commonly associated with face-swap obscene videos). This technology enables fake news like never before because it can create some of the most realistic-looking footage, making deep fakes a very serious issue.

But the reach of deepfakes is far more profound than mere entertainment or pranks. Deep fakes can lead to identity theft of high-profile people such as officials or executives and can be responsible for causes behind reputation destruction, financial fraud, or even political instability. Imagine what a deepfake video of the CEO saying something untrue would do to an organization’s stock price or how it might panic employees and stakeholders.

#2. Automated Phishing Attacks

Generative artificial intelligence is changing the state of the art in phishing attacks, and it is more advanced and challenging to detect. AI-based systems can automatically produce extremely realistic and personalized phishing emails (at scale), mimicking writing styles, including personas of real people complete with personal information.

These AI-infused phishing campaigns can even evade legacy security techniques predicated on pattern matching or keyword detection. Using an artificial intelligence trained on massive amounts of data from social networks and other publicly available resources, AI itself could generate messages targeted at every single addressee, thus improving the effectiveness of such attacks.
